    Hi All.
Really a follow on from my last post on the clematis Ohh La La I purchased in a 9 cm pot.Now the excitement of receiving the plant has faded I am looking at it with with fresh eyes.It is indeed a healthy plant but so very small, cannot see it being a 2 year old plant. It is not even showing any roots at bottom of pot so really is only a baby and I feel way too early to plant out.
What I am doing is looking after it in greenhouse until it has grown enough to pot on so really 2012 will be its year of glory. My wife feeling sorry for me OR is lining up a job for me to do,purchased me a Clematis Picady which came in a 2 litre pot and a healthy 2 years old and 2 feet tall.
Now I read that best time to transplant Clematis is Feb /March,in the Picardy case being a group 3 you cut it down to around one foot.
Would you recommend either leaving the plant in its 2 L pot as long as it has not got root bound of planting straight into a final container bearing in mind that disturbing the roots may effect the plant,or not.
    Thank you for any help.

I would plant it into it's final pot now, don't leave it because you're absolutely correct in saying these plants hate to be disturbed, if you disturb the roots of clematis the plant will usually wither and die in days.

These plants have deep roots so choose a deep pot.

Note that pots dry out very quickly and will need a regular and good weekly soaking and - in winter the pots will freeze easily so you might have to move them to a sheltered position.
