clematis top broken off

    hi i have just brought a clematis armandii and knocked the top off when planting it, it still has side shoots will it be ok or have i killed it???

    It should come back, I've done the same and they have always recovered.

    Should be fine, Clematis are very tough.

    There must be a clematis damaging bug going around as i have just done exactly the same trying to feed it from behind the trellis!

    I bought one this morning..'Miss Bateman'..and because it had long leggy leaders I cut them all to around 30cm's at buds ,and hopefully I will get masses more shoots and flowers lower down. So don't worry..you've probably done it a favour.

    We have 'Miss Bateman' as well ...... She does get around !!!! :D

    Well I have just weedkillered one, so I had to cut it down to ground level, It will return, a bit later than usual thats all.
