A friend gave me this Clematis from her garden as she was having a wall altered. No idea which variety it is and I had to give it a severe haircut when it arrived as it was in full leaf!!! Anyway it has survived and has a solitary flower BUT it's gorgeous or would be if some b..... thing hadn't eaten a hole in it. The flower is sort of pleated and huge in comparison to any of my other various Clematis. The plant isn't looking fantastically healthy and should it not make it though the winter I would really like to be able to replace it as I don't have another pure white Clematis. Hopefully someone can identify it. Thanks. Sorry about my big foot in the photo! Picture 296.jpg

If it is Marie Boisselot it will be a strong grower and a good bet to survive.

Oh super thank you both so much. I am by no means an expert on Clematis and to have 2 knowledgeable people agree on which variety it is, great.

I'm no expert either, but I always thought that Marie Boisselot had a pale yellow centre? The only two white clematis with a brown centre are Miss Bateman and henryi and henryi has gappy petals, so my money's on Miss Bateman!

but Silu's one does have a pale yellow centre Noisette? doesn't it? or is my monitor being funny with colours...again? :th scifD36:

i dont think it is Miss Bateman tbh as mine have a kind of pale green bit down the centre of each petal & the stamens/anthers are much darker...unless maybe there are variations? :dunno:

here's my Miss Bateman for comparison....

        Quoting RHS site.
        Clematis Miss Bateman.....

" Single rounded flowers to 15cm in width are satin-white with 6-8 tepals having a central green stripe on the reverse and contrasting stamens of creamy filaments and dark red anthers."

        Clematis Marie Boisselot....

"Large, flat, single flowers to 20cm in width, with 8 satin textured white, rounded, overlapping sepals and creamy-yellow stamens."
        Hope this helps.
