I have to confess that as yet I have only one clematis in the garden and I didn't even buy that and before you all scream thief I hasten to add it was yet another gift from my very lovely sister-in-law Diane. [IMG]

I don't know it's name and either does she so I'll have to take a picture once it flowers so someone might be able to id it for me.Hel.xxx.

I got a Ville Lyon at Morrison's last week for 89p. Then I just ordered a Nelly Moser from an eBay company yesterday, £7.00. Ah well you can't get absolute bargains every time and the new picnic area will need lots of plants.

talking about good buys, when it comes to clematis, i was in morrisons and looking at the reduced veggie counter, when right at the back were two sad looking clematis ,they were as dry as a bone and really looking sorry for themselves, so i could not bear to leave them there so in my basket they went , they were 99p each. as soon as i got home i gave them a really big drink of water and a dose of tomatoe food , then about an hour later i put them straight into the garden , one was called THE PRESIDENT and the other was called SUNSET , so far they havent died on me and they are beginning to sprout some new growth so i am making sure to water them well and i will see if they can reward me with some nice blooms maybe next year.

You mention NELLY MOSER i think she is just great , one of the best .

i put one in a few months ago and i have had my first flower last week :)

Hi may, I like you, fall for the sorry looking plants and have to take them home and baby them, and 99% of the time they reward me.:D:thumb: 02

yes it brings satisfaction to think you have recued them ,:) also i find that when i go round the garden centres the clematis that are looking sad and old are sometimes the best ones to take home ,because i find that they have the best roots filling the pot .

and i always look for the pots that have the roots coming out of the bottom of the pot.

then if the plant fails on me when i put it in the ground , because it has a good lot of roots more than likely it will shoot up next year and then i have not lost it for good. :thumb:

but if there is not many roots filling the pot i would not have a second chance.

Is it worth dead-heading them? Mine are starting to look a little sorry and all the flowers fell off last week.
