@pete or anyone else who can help.

My Blue Butterfly has suddenly got some kind of white nodules. What can I do without chemicals?

    Thank you.

Looks like a type of fungus. But I am not sure what to do about it...

I can't quite tell from the photo, but it looks like scale insect. You can pick/rub them off by hand.

Also, a vegetable oil emulsified in water will suffocate them. Neem oil is best, but almost any oil dispersed in water with a tiny drop of soap/detergent will work with repeated applications.

T'other Half had sprayed with washing up liquid which had a little rubbing alcohol in it. They were soft little blobs that I took off. I took cotton pads and put on some water and a splash of hydrogen peroxide and wiped the stems down thoroughly, well all of the plant. The pot has now been put in the ICU behind the trellis off the front patio. We put any ailing plant there and so far have had 100% recuperation. :fingers crossed:

Thank you for the quick responses. I was anxious because I started this babe from a 10cm rooting 18 months ago.

Out of curiosity ... where does this scale come from? This pot was nowhere near the other pots on the patio, maybe two meters, an Avocado and a Cherry Plum tree.

I did once read up on the life cycle scale.
Can't remember much but I think what you have there is the breeding stage, and those woolly capsules release very tiny crawlers.
These move on to other plants and then start forming the capsule you have have there.

I found this of interest ..

            Causes Of Scale

It is like an oven on the kitchen patio and our shade sail gave up the ghost again, so I would suspect it could be heat attracting them. The pots are watered regularly there but this is a small 30cm terracotta pot whilst the trees are in giant pots.

I will report back. My pink Brugmansia suavolens recovered from whatever and has a new crop of leaves.

Here am I back with this yet again ... for the third time. It only happens to this shrub.

I have stripped it of leaves and cut it back as a lot of the leaves looked dodgy/spotty on the back. I wiped the stems down with alcohol then with my mixture.

We have now moved it to another location.

Any ideas why this keeps happening? It had nice blooms earlier in the year.

Its the kind of pest where you have to be persistent, and spray at the first sign, once you see damage its getting a bit too late.
              I'd use a systemic insecticide.

And spray a second time a couple of weeks later.
