My friend has one in her garden about 7ft or so high.. My questions..
    Are they easy to propagate?
Are they slow growing or are they happy to be pruned?
Will they come true from cuttings?

 Or am I wasting my time. ? Thanks for any input..

I dont think cuttings are easy Marley, professionals do root it though I assume.
I've grown it from seed and it can flower the following year given an early start.

I had a largish one wiped out a few years ago at the start of the cold winters, it needs a warm winter position or a mild winter like the one we have just had.
I was thinking of trying it again myself.

You can trim them back a bit after flowering.

I was thinking of trying too (its not "again" in my case :) )

I put it on my list of seeds to get next Autumn ... perhaps I should have a go sooner than that?

I bought a Clianthus a few years ago but it was wiped out in 20210, it is a cultivar common in GCs now called Flamingo and it is paler than yours Pete. The original darker red like yours is more appealing. The white variety CP AlbaI think is even less hardy.

Well I got my seed from my friend, the lady I got the cuttings from.. She says they will grow so I will see.. I couldn't find any seed for a dark red one like hers.. So I will see what happens next.. O/H is going to the USA in May so will get him to have a look for seed..Then he could post them home perhaps..

I'm thinking that none of the varieties are likely to come true from seed, so, perhaps its most likely to revert to the type species when grown from seed, ie. fairly dark red.

My plant in the picture was seed grown from Chilterns if I remember rightly.
