trachelospermum jasminoides ius nice evergreen glossy leaves, fragrant jasmin like flowers, books will tell you it needs full sun but ive seen it do well with only a fewhours of direct sun (It wont like cold winds in exposed spot though) Honeysuckle of cours, a bit tattier but a really tough and fragrant plant. Jasmine (im not a fan although i live up north im sure it does better in other places) Wisteria the queen of climbers (it would need to be a fairly substantial pegola wisteria gets big).

    Hope this helps.

    Hi,

I am wit Woo on this one. There could be nothing better than a beautiful rose climbing over a pergola, perhaps with a clematis that flowers at a different time too that way you can extend the colour.

For my Pergola I centered one on each side a old fashioned rose climber, thornless and fragrant Zephirine Drouhin. They were put in two falls ago, this year seem to be leaping. I am also reviewing some clematis to purchase 4 of them for two on each side. I do have another forum group giving me a nice list of fragrant ones. Will order this spring. From what your describing the sunlight/shade is close to what I have also.

It is a lovely rose the Zephirine Drouhin, Wiseoldowl one that I've had on my mind for years waiting for the right place.

Have you seen my pictures on You tube, much of my property is shade. Go on You tube and enter in Estherredstar. I learned by books for shade etc. and on line plugging in plants for shade looking at heights and when blooming etc. Takes time.
