    Hello

I am after some suggestions for climbers please.

    I want two of them.

One will be on a north/east facing fence - will get a bit of morning sun but after that will be in shade for the rest of the day. It has to be very fragrant, preferably evergreen and profusely flowering. I'd also like it to be fast growing. I'm thinking stuff like Lonicera but not sure which one would be best. Summer flowering too.

The other will be on the south facing side of the garage, so will have sun most of the day. Again, preferably evergreen, very fragrant and fast growing. Preferably not white cos I want a bit of colour, but not ruling white out altogether. Again, summer flowering.

They both need to be fully hardy to survive the northern climes of sunny Manchester.

Don't want much do I? :rolleyespink:

    Thanks in advance.

Loving the Clematis, but I really want something which flowers through the summer so I can smell it while I'm out in the garden in the summer. Might see if I can find another clematis which does though.

Almost all of the plants I have seem to be spring flowering or autumn/winter flowering, and the various Escallonias I have, which are summer flowering, seem to have no scent.

I've just remembered that I need a couple more climbers for the arbour as well. I currently have a Wisteria (which again is spring flowering) and an evergreen honeysuckle (I think) which never flowers and doesn't seem to grow much (does anyone know what it is - pic below?) but the two other 'legs' of the arbour have nothing growing up them so I may get a couple of climbers for that too, but nothing too vigorous because I don't want them all fighting over each other.

Here's the one I would like to identify - looking a bit droopy due to sub-zero temperature!

star jasmine (Trachelospermum jasminoides) is my favourite climber and I include them in all gardens ....

evergreen .... very fragrant flowers in summer .... needs to be planted in a sunny location though

I have planted several over the past few years in Cambridge, and they were unscathed (with no protection) by the extreme cold winters of 2010/2011 .... (coldest winters in 100 years) ...

Sorry I'm being a bit dim, here *dim*, but where does that beautifully manicured example actually exit the ground? On the other side of the wall, because I can't see a trunk on it?

Merleworld- I guess your mystery climber is a honeysuckle. Maybe Halliana japonica. That's strong-growing and semi evergreen, and fragrant but get a bit rank and scruffy.

Ah, that explains it. It's a bit more decorative than the metal bars.

I like that .... have not seen it before .... just had a quick look and found info saying it is hardy to -10 degrees C

edit: another site says hardy to -6 degrees C

another site says hardy in zones 8 and 9
