Have wanted one of these for ages and bought one last week (anomala petiolaris) - thought I had done all the homework on it but discovered it sticks to the wall like ivy - is there any other way I can get it to climb up the wall without it actually being attached to it would putting trellis on the wall save the wall a bit? Am a bit worried about it marking the wall.

    hi Marge
what you can do is get some vine eyes (screw in type) put them along your wall every 3 feet, run wires through, and tie in the growth to the wires. trellis would do but may work out dearer than vine eyes/wire
you will need to do this every week during growth so the small tendrils that stick to the wall can't reach it... the only other solution is to put it against a fence and get something else for the wall, like a climbing rose. hope this helped.

[IMG] Think I would go with rossco's advice on the wires as trellis has a tendancy to all "come away" from the wall in high winds if the plant is quite heavy in one big peice..  ..

Thanks for your replies - I ve decided to plant it to grow up my huge shed  that way, it doesnt matter how it grow and if it sticks to the wood and makes the shed fall down then I'll be happy! (Said in another postthe shed is huge and Id like to get rid of it to have more planting space but hubby keeps his fishing gear in there! )
