Can anyone give me suggestions for an alternative to a climbing rose? I have a wooden arbour entrance to my patio which already has a well established rose on both sides but I hate it! Too much work to keep off pests, blackspot and prune. Is there a plant without thorns but still flowers and has less hassle?

Hi, there! There are simply loads of climbers! I just googled vines plants, and this was the first site that came up. I can't recommend it, I've never heard of it before, but it'll give you some idas - it has pics! Hope it helps http://www.robrick.com/plants/featured_plants.asp

Cazza --- I think you have got to watch the hardiness. Every time I see fantastic new climbers they were not that hardy. I have Clematis, Abutilon Megapotamicum, and a Jasmine Beesianum. The last two have done ok for three years, but even so are a bit iffy. There does not seem to be that much that is colourful and fully hardy.

    Edit: Abutilon name
