Hi. My climbing roses are producing plenty of blooms, but despite careful pruning and training they are all at the end of long stems, The stems aren't especially weak or spindly. Some are on a warm wall and one is on a north wall.

Which varieties of rose are you growing and in which places?

Could we see some pictures please?

If you can bend the stems horizontally, they will often produce shoots along the stem. Some varieties have supple stems, some don't. But either way, you need to do it when they are young and whippy

Agreed with @BB3 lateral growth happens by taking the canes nearly horizontal but that's why I asked for a photo as you may have already done that as you mentioned training.

    Thanks for the replies. Appreciated.!
I have trained them horizontally but the vertical flowering spurs go a long way up before flowering.
I'll take some pics and hopefully upload them!

Sounds and looks like my Dublin Bay. It's stubborn too. I've been battling it for years. Stems shoot up 12ft + into the air
