    Hello,
I have just purchased four climbing roses from Dobies .I am unsure about planting is there any help or advise to be given ? The bushes are red / white is it best to mix up ? keep whites together ? and is four enough to cover a 5 mtr area in length.I have secured a trellis to the wall in allowing them to climb. Is it okay to plant now ? I would be grateful of any advise.

Hi Tattie,I take it they are container grown Roses,Is it possible to give us the names of your Roses, and the mixing of colours is a personal choice(My choice would be alternating Red /White/red white). The length Approx(16ft) seems OK with the Information given,i,m a little concerned about the trellis, will it be strong enough to hold the Roses when they are fully Mature, best make sure now before the trellis is covered and falls down.:dh:The Trellis needs to be about 2 to 3 cm away from the wall for the air to circulate freely around the Roses,Plant the Roses about 30 cm away from the wall at a slight angle as nearer the wall will be to dry.Hope this has been of some help to you,:)

    Hello,
Thanks again, when is best time to plant ? and what is best for soil,do I add anything to top soil or what.Someone mentioned to dig a hole and add bonemeal other say get manure. If you can advise I would be grateful.I will leave about 12" from wall and plant as you said red/white/red/white how far apart would you recommend.Or do I leave in pots and plant later on ? Sorry to be a pain.

Hi Tattie not at all only to pleased to help when I can,:) IMHO I would say the sooner the better then it will have time to settle In before the colder weather arrives.Measure the depth of the pot and just add a few extra inches to that for the depth of the hole and the same for the diameter of the pot ,Remove the Rose from its container,If there are any roots that are tangled just gently ease them out, then I would make sure that when the Rose is placed in the hole that the Bud union is just below the surface of the soil(not above). Then I would use one third of compost and two thirds of soil mixed together to fill the hole with, then it is very important to firm the Rose in so that it won,t suffer from wind rock, there Is no need to prune the rose for the first two years of its life, just remove any dead or diseased wood,If I have left anything out ,please let me know as just lately my brain cells are Diminishing:dh::hehe::)
