Can anyone recommend a climbing shrub that will be happy growing against a north facing wall. It MUST be able to be grown in a TUB or CONTAINER as it is on the patio and there is no open soil.

Also, a question on roses - if i have a cluster of five or six blooms forming, is it better to cut some of them off to give more strength to the remaining ones or should I leave well alone.

    Thanks

Climbing Hydrangea?? (H. petiolaris from memory)

Leave the individual rose flowers, snap them off once they finish flowering (individually), remove the whole stem and cut back a bit (to a bud - I cut back a couple of leaves usually) after the whole bunch has finished - to encourage more to come.

Pyracantha. Nice white flowers in the Spring and orange berries in Autumn. Very thorny though, so you'd need thick gardening gloves to handle plants.

aristolochia macrophylla, nice big leaves, but you would't grow it for its flowers, doesn't like it very windy
