collapsed clematis

Shame that people that age act so irresponsibly

 

It was an evergreen clematis so probably a Armandii or a variety of it. As we all know we are allowed to trim foliage that comes over a fence but we must give it back to the owners [not that they would want it]. However in this case it looks like there was already bad relations between the Neighbours and, according to the Newspaper, the perpetrators were actually cutting into the Clematis on their neighbour's side of the fence, which they are not allowed to do. So it looks like the Clematis was resting on the top of the fence which was taking it's whole weight, as many Clematis do, and when that was removed the plant had nothing to hang onto and collapsed It's possible that the Clematis might regrow again but I've found evergreeen Clematis to be unpredictable when damaged.
