Maybe, but leaf mould when ready will be a shadow of its former self. 2 bin bags of leaves will yield about half a carrier bag of ready to use leaf mould.

        Steve...:)

Is this better. This is all from just one small section of verge about 100 yards from my house. There is plenty more yet just drom that spot. I might think about going out again over the weekend. I even bumped into a local councilor who was out walking his dog. He said it was up to the contractor to clear them up. He then went on his way.

Can I leave the leaves in the builder's bag? it will be a lot easier to store that way.

              :snorky:

A few ways of doing this....storing leaves.

Most of my leaves are from sycamores.....plenty of them here but they seem to produce nice crumbly leafmould eventually

In my experience the best way is to store them in black bin liners; not sure if being black helps but at the back of my mind black helps retain warmth?? However, I dont see why you should not use the builder's bag. Tie the top though. As with compost heaps the leaves need to be damp and air is needed too so I make a few holes in the bags. ( sturdy bin liners because some are flimsy and tear easily)
Supposedly decent leaf mould takes 2 years but it takes 3 years for me. Store out sight somewhere.

Despite what I have said, most of my leaves are either left as a mulch around shrubs in the back garden where they cant blow around or they are added to my compost heaps. I often mow the fallen leaves when most have fallen and they mix well with the grass; then added to my compost heaps.:)

what I really would love to incorporate in my soil chemical is pine needles. have plenty of leaves over the years been decomposing in the soil. one day I'll find someone I can rake needles off the lawn and spill it in some areas.

Them's got a growth inhibitor in them :yikes:

That's why nothing grows under pine trees.

I've just taken three builders bags of leaves to the tip, I've also burnt a load and more still on the lawn under snow. I've nowhere to store them at the moment and no neighbours that want them either, what a waste!
