Planted a colocasia in my garden here in the UK, and it has grown brilliantly. It's in a very sheltered spot. Can anyone tell me if it's possible to over-winter it with plenty of protection?

There are threads about this - I'll have a look and see if I can find one - Bananaman is the main person about this sort of thing! :D

Thanks very much for the info. There seems to be some queries about bergenias or colocasia. This is definetly a colocasia. It seems that I should be able to over-winter it in situ as long as I've planted it deep enough. I'd like to post a pic on the website but don't know how to do that. Any info would be appreciated. Thanks again for the help.

If you upload your photos to http://photobucket.com , reduce them to message board size, click on the bottom of the 3 lines under your photo, control c, then come into GC here, and in the message writing space, control v - and bingo!!

    Hello

If you have a particularly harsh frost, or it gets really wet, once the foliage has collapsed, lift the rhizomes and store in a cool place - ideally in a garage or shed, hung up in a string bag, so it can keep dry and frost-free. I have some colocasias in pots, so I'm putting them in the greenhouse for the winter.

As an insurance policy, I am keeping a baby plant (runner)indoors as a houseplant over winter.
    Hope this helps

    Hi!
Just call me Dendy!! Everyone else does.....
Have you made your photo a bit smaller than the original? That helps everyone on dial-up, as it takes ages for them when it's loading. You can do it by clicking the edit button under your photo, and choosing the message-board size in the drop-down menu in the section about re-sizing your image.

Then go back to your now smaller photo, and you'll see 3 boxes, with descriptions of your photo. Go to the bottom one, and highlight it, and press the ctrl button and c at the same time - that will copy the info. Then go into the post you're writing here, and do ctrl v, and the description will be pasted in. Then you can post your reply, and the picture will be there.

    Hope that helps!

It's easy when you know how! Honestly!!

Nope! It ain't workin'. I still must be doing something wrong. I've reduced the picture to message board size, clicked on line 3. Pressed control and c at the same time. When I go back to GC that's where it all goes t--ts up!
Maybe I am destined to leave my photos wandering in the photobucket wilderness forever?!!! [IMG]

Can anyone else help at this stage? I'm obviously missing something out, but that's the system that works for me!
