Comfrey propogation

I needed to move our comfrey to the allotment and dug up one of four plants, then propogated it into 90!

I dug up some of our comfrey a couple of years ago and put it on the compost heap. I spread some of the compost in the polytunnel this year and have already had to dig out three nice healthy looking plants!!!

 

Yup, it's bocking 14, sterile so does not spread by windblown seed. Still, you do have to be careful where you put it as it'll always be there.

Kicking ste,have you got plans to make a mix n sell it or do you need all that yourself?ive split mine this yr but not growin as many tomatoes which i used it fro last yr good stuff x

 

I'll be using it all myself and if there is any left over I'll give it to other plot holders. But once I have made comfrey tea, used it as a mulch or put it on the compost heaps..I dont think there will be much left anyway, if any.

Keep on dividing them at that rate and in 3 years you'll have over 65,000,000 comfrey plants. Have you got plans for taking on any more plots?

Surprisingly enough, I wont be doing any further propogating.

And Asda I believe, these are damaged trays returned/replaced a family relative picked up a job lot of these, ten bob a tray.

Less than a week and the cuttings with leaf on are going at a tremendous pace!

The rear fence of our allotment is around 5-6 foot from a little stream, and I plan to plant that up with some of this Comfrey...it'll help keep the weeds down in that area and having weed seed blow onto the plot. The rest will be shoe-horned into available space in the plot as it gets dug over, again to stop weed growth.

I used to eat the stuff as a vegetable, till I read an article that it might be carcinogenic

Just use it to make a liquid feed now. I suppose the local name "Knitbone" should have been a giveaway Cell dividing properties and all that.

 

Comfrey is a herbal remedy for hayfever.
