This is gonna sound mad but I'm really confused now.

Didn't think it be good idea to grow flowers near veg ( attract pests I thought) but my mate reckons I should plants marigolds between my peas/beans for some reason and called it companion planting.

Is she pulling my leg? :rolleyespink: :help:

No Marigolds are strong smelling and will keep pests away. Marigolds in a greenhouse with tomatoes will stop whitefly attack

Marigolds are a great deterrent to carrot root fly as well. Mind you, it's not surprising, since marigolds (me to at least) 'stink' and carrot root flies only get to an 'altitude' of about 2' - were I a carrot root fly, I'd keep well away too!

Marigolds are also popular with slugs, who may stuff their faces on so many marigold leaves that they're too full to eat anything else, and then just lay their bloated until the blackbirds, hedgehogs, and/or frogs come along and polish them off.
