Hello everyone! :) I'm new to the forum and new to gardening... completely new, arggg! I'm hoping to learn a lot.

My partner and I have lived in our Victorian terrace house for 10 years now and renovated it from a horrible 1970s-style mess into what we now call home. The garden is small - imagine your traditional Victorian terrace, two up and two down, and the size of garden you'd expect. We also have a narrow area of soil out the front. I have to say, our outdoor space has always been an afterthought... until now.

When we first moved in, my father-in-law planted some stuff in the back, and it kind of went wild. We didn't look after it and it became rather jungle-like and not in a good way. Every year we pruned it all right back and it just grew again, rampantly... and we had some creeping vines which became invasive, and then died, leaving their brittle brown arms wrapped around everything else!

We didn't like any of the plants in our garden, so made the decision to just get rid of everything and start with a clean slate. The soil quality at the moment is fairly poor and in need of refreshing, so the plan is to incorporate some organic matter into it and dig out the 8 or 9 stumps remaining from the plants we really don't like. I am looking forward to a clean slate!

I joined this forum as I think it'll be a good idea to ask for advice as we go along. We are going into this feeling a little bit clueless, but quite excited as well!

Just thought I'd say hi. :)

Hi and :sign0016: to the corner - I am sure you will get lots of ideas to help you and good luck in your new venture. Always good to start from scratch as you can then put your own style into it.

    Hello and welcome:)

Russian Vine by any chance? For a few weeks each summer did it have clusters of tiny, feathery, mildly fragrant creamy white flowers?
