    Hi everyone

I have purchased a patio apple tree and the instruction stated that it likes the compost on the slightly acid side. So what does that mean? Does it mean I use ericaceous compost only? Will it be too acidic for the tree? or mix a bit of the ericaceous compost with some multi-purpose compost so it's slightly on the acid side?

    Thankyou [IMG]

Hi bubbly, apples in the garden will tolerate a wide range of soils with not too much fuss. Drainage may be important during winter for your plant. I would guess the last part of your post would seem right. I'm eating my cox's at the moment. it makes good sense to have a fruit tree you have the fun of watching from bud, blossom through to harvest.

Sorry forget to add, it's a dawrf patio fruit tree and I'm planting it into a pot. But just like you agreed hans, it makes sense just to add a bit of the ericaceous compost so that the compost is on the acidic side. Cool, I will plant the tree tomorrow. [IMG]
