confused!!! please help

I will be getting my first greenhouse in the next few months and have loads of brochures from different companies, but the more I look, the more confused I'm getting :confused:I need some advice please from you lovely garden folk
Do I go for polycarbonate, if so is the twin wall better than single, or safety glass.
The greenhouse will be in a south facing garden, so is very warm in the summer ( if we ever get one that is )
And is a concerete base OK?

Hi Silmar,I would go polycarbonate with twin walls and a concrete base is fine it makes for easier damping down.

 

Polycarbonate doesn't break very easily and do I remember you mentioning kids when you introduced yourself? It is a lot safer for mini-peeps.

Against it is that it is more expensive and with time it can get a yellow tint. It doesn't stay as bright as glass. Twin wall is better for heating control but again I would recommend you to spend as much as you can afford on a g.house, especially if you can run to automatic, thermostatic louvres. Boy do I love spending money for other people.:D

A concrete floor is fine. I have one and it is so easy to keep clean.

It's all really a matter of personal choice and finances.

Hi Silmar we have brought a twin walled greenhouse I really wanted to have a glass one but hubby wouldn't have it nor would he dream of the cost of having a safety glass one as not sure how strong they really are as next door's 10 year old is a bit of a nightmare and the little madam is always throwing sticks over.

We looked at the normal polycarbonate ones (large B & Q stores have these on show) but we were put off them as they make quite a noise when it's windy so settled on a the twin walled one...even then hubby is making a little trellis work in front of it so the little ones don't get into it so easy or damage it for that matter as you know children where there's a will there's a way! Hel.xxx.

 

hi silmar, hel is right i got a poly gh single walled, looks great, but is i bit noisy in wind however it is tough not had mine up for long and i am impressed,you have to make sure you achor it down properly if you get one.

Hi Silmar. The only advice I would give is, go for the biggest (within reason, of course) you can afford. It`s very easy to fill up a greenhouse when you get going ! Cheers...freddy.

I bought a new greenhouse last year, because I have little peeps around sometimes I went for toughened glass but I did splash out on the automatic roof windows and I am really glad I did they are brilliant, and you don't have to keep popping out to open and close them.
