      Agreed :dbgrtmb:

He wrote hundreds of songs and many of them were hits for other singers such as Pete Seeger, Joan Baez, Johnny Cash and The Byrds.

Here are some more of his and these other singers' hits.

      It Ain't Me Babe
      Don't Think Twice It's Alright
      A Hard Rain's A Gonna Fall
      One Too Many Mornings
      Who Killed Davey Moore
      With God On Our Side
      Farewell Angelina
It's All Over Now, Baby Blue
      This Wheel's On Fire
      Knocking On Heaven's Door

:dbgrtmb: Also agreed! :dbgrtmb: I do wonder if he will attend, and also if they will serve kosher food at the banquet? :)

As most will probably be able to guess, the Nobel Prizes are a big thing here. Even if I personally think that Bob Dylan is a good choice, many people here think it to be a strange one. Most seem to believe that all of the prizes should go to someone that is generally unheard of for the general public! In other words, an odd choice!

As examples of odd choices. How many are aware that Winston Churchill won the literature prize, but people such as Astrid Lindgren, JK Rowling haven't? Neither have poets such as Sassoon, Owen...the mind sometimes boggles at how the choices are made!

The very first album I bought was the Byrds first, Mr Tambourine Man. It was only on their fourth album that there were no Dylan songs, such was his influence.
Even the Hollies had an album dedicated to his songs.

I thought that it was an inspired choice. On Radio 4 on Thursday night some of his lyrics were recited as poetry and they stood up quite well in my opinion.
Some of his other lyrics stand up less well as poetry in their own right but even then there is no denying the power of his writing. Masters Of War is my favourite Dylan track and is a good example of this...............

@roders I've only just looked at the link you gave to some of the lyrics listed by The Guardian (I usually don't click on links to newspapers because they can take over five minutes to download on my slow internet connection ) and I see that the first lyric they give is for the song 'Who Killed Davey Moore'.

He and Pete Seeger were friends and worked together a lot in the early days. In 1962 Pete wrote 'Who Killed Norma Jean' (Marilyn Monro, for those who didn't know her real name :blue thumb:) and performed it at Carnegie Hall in June 1963. In March 1963 Davey Moore died, so Bob Dylan wrote his song in the same format and tempo as Pete's song and Pete sang both of them, in succession, at his concert. (I was there :dbgrtmb:) That concert was recorded on the Columbia label and the album was called 'We Shall Overcome'. There were other Dylan songs performed during the concert.

In August 1963 Bob had his concert at Carnegie and sang it for the first time. (I wasn't there )

Shiney.......you and anybody else might like to see this moving video from Pete Seegers half sister commemorating the life of Pete.
The way these great entertainers can hold an audience in the palm of their hands never ceases to amaze me.
Great to see the Carthy's accompanying her ,the old and the new.

I go back to the days when Pete formed The Weavers with Fred Hellerman, Ronnie Gilbert and Lee Hayes. :old: I've still got some of their records. :)
