Sadly Constantine Garden Nursery is closing down. Their strapline is "Growing over 4000 varieties of Cottage Garden and Rare Perennials, Clematis and Climbers from around the world"

Their website has a large list of plants, and if you send an email of any you would like they will tell you which are still in stock, and the price [EDIT: web site shows the full price, they will reply to your email with the discount price, typically reduced by 50% or more]. But hurry, they won't be available for long :) (Note that the website does not reliably show whether they still have the plant available, or not, hence you need to Email a list of things that you want - plus some extras in case they aren't all still available :) )

I bought the following, most of them in 2L pots.

    Aconitum carmichaellii arendsii 1.50
    Agapanthus glenavon 2.50
    Agapanthus no. 3 2.50
    Agapanthus snow cloud 2.50

    Polygonatum biflorum giganteum 1.50
    Polygonatum odoratum variegatum 1.50
    Rodgersia hercules 1.50
Salvia guarantica black and blue - LARGE 5L POTS 4.50
    Salvia microphylla kew red 1.50
    Salvia pratensis indigo 1.50
    Sanguisorba tenuifolia alba 1.50
    Scopolia carniculata 2.50

Plants were in excellent condition on arrival, and look healthy. Some were cut back to be fit for travel, which they told me about before shipping.

I feel awful picking through the bones of such businesses, but my order is in too.

Me too, but I gather she hopes to resume in a wholesale, rather than retail, guise.

Felt like that when the local garden centre closed earlier this year, especially as we knew 2 of the people losing their jobs there, but thought if it wasn't us picking up the bargains it would be complete strangers from miles away (dealers were trying knock down offers for bulk purchase at the end).

Better everything is sold, rather than chucked, so once the sale is inevitable the wider the audience the better I reckon??

Wish I had known that they existed before ...

BTDTGTTS :heehee: Probably not everything you would like will still be available, so worth having some spares ... and if they turn out to all be available then Oh! Well! Quel dommage!

@Kristen you've listed veronicastrum Apollo as being £1.50 whereas, when we go on site, it shows £3.95

Do we have to go to any special area of the site?

I just did as Kristen and emailed my list through. Got a prompt reply and then made the phone call.

Yes, site shows the full price, but they are having a closing down sale and its 50% or more off everything. I expect that they have not spent a fortune on the website (although it is nicely presented) so no easy way to indicate discount prices and/or stock levels. (I'm not sure that their sale has technically started as yet, as I heard it was starting in July, so maybe we are just a bit ahead of the curve, but they are offering discounts if you email them a list of what you are interested in)

I have just spoken to someone as Constantine.
Apparently not everything is half price. The rarer stuff will be nearer normal price.
I have sent my list anyway, and will see what they come back with.

                  I guess I didn't choose anything "rare" then :)

Most expensive items on my list were:

Paris polyphylla (list £8.95 reduced to £3.50; Rare Plants=£7.50, Shipton Bulbs £4.50 - both pot-size unknown)

Arisaema candidissimum (list £9.95 reduced to £3.50; Rare Plants=£10.50 (flowering size), Ben Candlin £8.50, Anglia Bulbs £9.50)

and Salvia guarantica black and blue (list £4.50 I paid £4.50 but for a 5L pot)

                  I'm happy :)
