Containers & Hanging baskets

What is everyone growing for the summer.

Why dont we post some before and after photos.

 

Am a complete novice at this gardening thing and am obviously not useful for answering problems for others butI found this thread and I can at least contribute here. Hooray !!

Got a flowerball so am looking for something to fill that with and planted some Fuschias last year that I thought lasted one year and they are all coming back looking a bit scraggy and have confused me about how to plant the baskets up this year.

Oh dear just realised I have not made much of a contribution here either. Going to go away and keep quiet again. lol

 

Thats OK jan29 , most of us are here to learn and sometimes put our pennysworth in.
I am growing :-
Petunia trailing,Salvia,Convulvulus ,Oxalis,Blue Pimpernel,Nasturtium,Canary Creeper,Thunbergia,Morning Glory,Oriental Papavar fruit punch,Marigold Citrus,begonia bonfire , begonia trailing,Flax
I buy a few more bedding plants from BnQ and Local flower sales.
Now what I would like is any hanging basket ideas - planting plans. I have an RHS hanging basket book and cant find half of the plants in it, also they seem to place about 20 plants in a basket ! I must be missing something :confused:

 

Oh don't go away Jan,pot your straggley fuchsias up separatly and take cuttings from nice shoots.Bizzie Lizzies look great in a plant ball.J

 

I put 5 plants in my hanging baskets to start with.

Always plant with small plugs so they can get their roots bedded in and by end of summer have fantastic baskets.

 

Oh yes all, smiffy especially. That's what wrong with the books.

Last year i planted a few 'Swet Williams' in pots/containers. I didn't realise they were bi-annuals. They kept going through the 2002/7 winter & smothered one pot. I had planted a perennial in the middle (complete novice at the time), now i have this little pot smothered with s/w that will hopefully flower this year, but with this poor little plant in the middle that flowers now (& in winter) that you can see if you push leaves away!

We're all here to learn. That's why this site is so good.

This year i have just planted some seedlings(?) out & it looks really bare. A few months time & they will be full hopefully.

I have just been checking my clematis in hanging baskets I planted last yr and now in full growth .

So started to tie raffia around stems and notice one had fallen off.

I have never propagated clematis how easy is this.

Do you use rooting powder or can it self root in water .

I have put a tomato plant in a basket.
One of the hanging ones.
Not the basket the plant Ha Ha
We'll have to see how it goes.

 

I have planted up two pedestal pots with argyranthemums, petunias, verbena, more trailing petunias and helichrysum (I think - that silvery, leafy stuff). It's a pinky theme and should look great.

 

Just potted up an hanging ball with livingstone daises now that is full of moss compsot an dplants ts very heavy but do think will be nice and colourful

Also potted up this sheer delight of a clematis today
