Blimey ...........first my Tablet goes to the tech graveyard in the sky and now my cooker has decided to join it. What absolutely fantastic timing. I think I'll just take myself up the road to Beachy Head and throw myself off!
Local appliance shop assured me on the phone that if I go in tomorrow they will sort a new one out for me and have it in by Christmas. The cost I could really really really do without.

So in the last couple months its been
    Lawnmower
    Vacuum Cleaner
    Microwave
    Tablet
    .... and Cooker!!

Kinda wish I hadnt got that new TV now. Someone up there is punishing me for sure.
I am treating myself to my very own little Pity Party for 1.

I've had a run somewhat similar - new bed needed after 12 years; new sofa because the old one was being held together by a bungee strap (literally), new vacuum cleaner, new washing machine, new microwave...... what worries me is the tumble dryer has developed a bit of a rumble that sounds very like motor bearings, so I hope it carries on working!

I'm toucing wood here, luckily anything that's broken down in the last 6 months, I've been able to fix. The worst was having to pull the control board and ice dispenser out of the side by side refrigerator. What a pain! I'm amazed it's still working okay.. toucing wood again :fingers crossed:

It seems now that, at one time you could pop out to the local shops and get most of what you needed. Now, and in particular, there only appears to be Curry's PC World for electrics. Our High streets and the tiny back street shop that sold anything and everything have become distant history.

OK, Fair Do's, saves one from trolling the shops, but. The medics then tell us to get up of our R's and get some exercise. Life is sweet but it's getting less sweeter and interesting.

And it could yet get worse. My Celica is due MOT on Tuesday. Ive had a word with here and explained in no uncertain terms that after having been used probably about half dozen times this year due to lockdown its in her very best interests to Pass without a hitch. If she fails to heed my strongly worded advice she too may find herself joining all my other shiny metal things in the sky.
Ive been considering taking it off the road till all this Covid stuff passes as she just costs too much money to keep just sat there. Now there's a new strain and the virus doesn't seem to getting the message to do one who knows when and if it will ever be gone. The amount I leave home these days I could probably use taxis for a yr as for what she costs month to month. Having said that Id no more get in a taxi at the moment than fly to the moon.

Toyotas are generally bullet proof, but can be expensive if you need to buy parts from Toyota, though most standard service parts are cheap enough from other sources.

In this lockdown time, best if you can take it for a 20 min run every week to keep things in working order, helps avoid a flat battery and things siezing up etc.

Many mot failures are from the most basic things, so if you follow a list like the one below you should stand a better chance of passing the test.
Always take our Toyota to the local councils mot center, they can only do the test and report on any faults, they cannot undertake any repairs or recommend any garage, so you always get a unbiased test.
              How to pass my MOT

Yes, taxis would probably be cheaper, its just the sheer convenience factor of having your own car.

Even if it fails don't just let it go for scrap, there is likely going to be someone who will pour some money on it as a restoration project.

Despite the badge on the nose of mine, it is cheap as chips to run - 40 to 45mpg around town, 65mpg on a run, service costs £160, even tyres aren't disgustingly bad for the size of car and it has only done 24k so is just about run in. That is one of the main reasons I cannot get rid of it despite everything going on. That, and the simple fact that I cannot walk more than around a third of a mile without being utterly, utterly knackered to the point of collapse (not joking)

If i didnt stay in the backwaters id dump the car. BUT...... Cant see myself lugging bags of compost whilst fighting a wriggling electric scooter Over the numerous potholes. ;)

Might not have a choice as ive been warned major welding may be needed for next mot. :mute:

Thanks for tip about council MOT @ricky101 . Sounds very sensible plan. I had no idea something like that existed. Im always dubious about being ripped of at garages not least because I female.
All joking aside I adore my Celica and would just take it off the road and park outside garage till I start going out and about again. Road tax alone is just under £30 a month because its 190BHP petrol engine. She got the nickname a few years ago 'Christine' after the evil devil car in the Stephen King film when she kept throwing little tantrums but in general I agree Toyotas are solid. Im not a fan of modern cars as I find them a bit boring unless of couree we're talking Lambo's, Mustangs or Vipers. Id love an old Nissan Skyline. Ha Ha...in my dreams. Id take one of those. For a car that is nearly 21yrs old she is mighty fine. Not a restoration project just yet. I on the other hand could do with some serious improvements.

Wow, that looks in great condition !! :dbgrtmb:
Just the way you were talking about it ,thought it might have been a bit of a banger.

If it was ours , would certainly take it out for a run every week, at least long enough for all the temperatures to get up to normal. plus we find a little run out makes us feel a bit more normal in these covid times.

Yes, the council mot center as where they test all the council vehicles and the towns Taxis, but also open to the public.
You have to pay the full Mot fee of £54, as opposed to most garages lower loss leader charges,
and you do get a thorough but fair test, non of this nonsense about the pads are worn, when they are hardly worn, totally safe and legal.
