This has been my recipe for the last few weeks, for clearing my new veg patch:
Take one large beef roasting joint ( prepak ones are ideal from supermarkets - about a tenner ) and place in roasting tin. Cover meat with the contents of one large can of draught liffy water, cover with secure lid, and pop it in the oven - gas mark 4. Aim for middle or lower third of oven.
Dont touch it for 4 hours. Leave the kitchen window open and get digging.
The smell eminating from the house is gorgeous, and spurs you on while the clock ticks on. You just know that in fours hours time, all the graft will be worth it. The liffy water makes a great gravy. Served with roasties, its a great way to reflect on what you have just achieved.

    Go, try it.

I always use 'liffy water' in beef stew, and lots of celery tops, and dumplings - gorgeous.
