I 0nly got 8. My maternal grandparents came from East London. Anybody remember the Cockney Pride Tavern at The Dilly before it closed in the 80's?

@JWK ,this is Danny Dyer , he is a broad cockney lad about town and an actor in Eastenders. To best describe him Danny Dyer is to acting , as I am to gardening

Only got 8, we only have the remnants from the hop picking days left around here.

I didn't think there were any Cockneys left in London, let alone East Enders.

I got 12/12 in less than 20 seconds - but I have a bit of an advantage over most (or all) of you. Back in the 1950's I had a stall down the 'Roman'. That's a street market, Roman Road, in the East End of London. It's still running but not the way I remember it.

                          A piece of useless information:-

A lot of people know that to be a proper cockney you need to have been born within the sound of Bow Bells. Those are the bells of St Mary le Bow in Cheapside, London.

There were no cockneys born between 1941 and 1961 because the church was bombed in 1941 and the bells were not restored into use until 1961 (Dec 21st).

Very few people can now be called cockneys as there are not many dwellings near the church so the bells aren't heard much. They used to be heard much further afield but the ambient noise in London is so high nowadays that they can't be heard very far.

@Scrungee I remember the Cockney Pride but not because of anything Cockney. I was at college within walking/staggering distance :heehee:
