This morning very disappointing in these shots (Oh for a 500mm lens) there were 25 Cormorants on the river and all I could get were these, but never mind ,bad light ,short lens, freezing cold, and a policeman asking me what I was doing:heehee: :)

Thanks Zigs ,I think he probably see's enough grief in his job,and I thought the best course of action was to be polite , courteous, and friendly and we ended up having a good chat about photography;)

I, like Ziggy, think they're pretty good pics for such low light and distance, Woo. All birds seem to have a trick of doing the unexpected just when you press the button though!!:heehee: I usually take a test shot and then end up notching it up one stop, and if needed another bit of brightening in the software but try to keep it minimal.:dunno: :snork:

Hi Armandll thank you I'm still researching the Canon SX50 which will give me 1200mm at the far end:) it usually takes me about 6 months to make a decision;)

I know the feeling, Woo, as I'm still "feeling" my way around my K5. There are so many useful things in these modern cameras and it takes a lot of use and time to get to know what's what.:snork:

Lovely shots Woo. :) At least you managed to get the birds on camera. I'm sure the birds here no I'm coming without seeing me, they're gone as soon as the camera's lined up, even if I am discreetly hiding myself.

They are good shots Woo considering the light and flying birds are notoriously dfficult to photograph. I have have tried using manual mode but by the time I've got the correct exposure via the light meter and waited for the zoom to focus the bird has long gone!:wallbanging:
I've gone back to using Programmed mode for anything moving.
