For several weeks now I keep hearing on my local radio gardening program about using Corn Meal sprinkled around the base of Roses to prevent Black Spot..Has anyone tried it? there's alot of folk swearing by it so I'm going to give it a go:thumbsup:
It's said to form a 'good' fungus around the base of the plant and protect it from the black spot spores..There's more science to it than that but it's way over my head:doh:

It's a bit of a rural myth Loli, healthy soil with an organic mulch is better :)

Cornmeal is used for growing fungal cultures, but you'd need the right fungus to be present in your soil in the first place.

Never had any problems with blackspot when I lived in Blaenau Ffesteringhog, the smoke from the coal fires stopped it.

There is no scientific or practical proof, that this is beneficial to Roses :sofa:
You would be better off making some bread with it:lunapic 130165696578242 5::lunapic 130165696578242 5:

Your chooks will love it :dbgrtmb:, some times you may get a whole wheat seed in corn meal so it may grow, some times in bags of meal you may get grain bugs

That was our breakfast when we were on the road,:lunapic 130165696578242 5:

Horticultural cornmeal or whole ground cornmeal is the natural disease fighter that is especially good for use on fungal diseases. It’s also good to use for cleaning up algae in ponds. Corn gluten meal is the natural “weed and feed” product. It is the protein portion of cornmeal.

Much of the cornmeal at the grocery store is just the starchy inside of the corn kernel and not effective for any of the plant uses.
