Weather was pants for the begining of the week, then got lovely. Think it was an Adder, didn't poke it to find out though.

Got a pic of an orchid on the sand dunes too.

Free parking if you're a National Crust member Catz.

Had a nice meal of Moules in Padstein, but not at the prices Rick was charging.

I like his fish and chips. If I win the lotto I'm going to eat in his proper restaurant. We always stay at Pentewan Sands when we go down.

I've been to Pentewan Sands. Do you mean the holiday/caravan park? They have a funny rule of locking the gates at midnight, so you're either in our out by then. except that from either side of the site you can get to the beach, and there is no boundary fence between the beach and the site, so I think the gates are just sort of honesty gates.

Looks like you've had a good time Ziggy.

I'd be interested to hear your thoughts on the Eden Project. I visited it last year and wasn't impressed. I went there thinking it had a purpose, but to be honest I just thought of it as another novel way to empty people's pockets!

That's the place. I don't know about them locking the gates though. They use a swipe card to get in and out. That's to keep people who aren't staying there from using it as a car park to get to the beach. We haven't been since they've put all the improvements in but the prices keep going up every year. It's still fairly reasonable to stay there unless its high season. I've also heard they are going to have some caravans with central heating and stay open year round.

Thats a very good point young Sheal.

As you know, i'm only Veg & Wildflowers department so most of the plantings will have gone over my head. But, the first thing I noticed was a Vipers Bugloss as I drove onto the site.

Most of the wildflower planting will have gone un noticed by most of the visitors but I noticed there was a spectaclier array of wildflowers everywhere, in all the verges, cliff faces, even in the beds between the beds.

It was good, the sort of thing I would have done myself:dbgrtmb:

Now i've worked in a quarry & I know how barren a place it can be, but they had really got it back to nature. Yes, there is a lot of touristy stuff there, but you have to keep the plebs entertained or you wont get the money in.

The food was good & reasonably priced but they were having a laugh with the apple juice at £3 a bottle.

Willow was taken aback that the "Land train" wasn't using bio diesil.

Cornwall. Isn't that the traffic jam with beaches - if you can ever get to them?

Ooo, gave the serving wench a couple of GC cards & asked her to pass them on to management with a view to opening a dialog between our 2 institutions.

225.JPG I did notice the wildflowers there. But I was expecting to see more going on in the biomes, a bit like Kew, growing and reproducing rare plants, that is obviously not what it's about, it's just a display of 'hot house' plants really.

Depends when you go. High season, yes, a right nightmare! We don't have kids so can go when it isn't very busy. Heaven!!
