I bought a few pots of cosmos from someone selling from their garden a few months ago, there was quite a few per pot. I carefully separated the roots and planted a few.
They have since just kept growing and growing with no flowers in sight, are they actually cosmos? I'm confused haha 20220821_103923.jpg

My cosmos are very tall too but much more "wispy" . I do have plenty of flowers but I don't use a lot of fertilizer.

Have you perhaps been using too much fertilizer? Maybe that is the culprit?

They look like cosmos. Might be worth feeding them with either a tomato fertiliser or better still straight potassium which encourages flowering. Yours look to have had too much nitrogen or farm yard manure ?

          Hi Bill
Have a look at my post in Identification Area about my cosmos this year. I have had exactly the same problem, shy high coarse plants with no blooms. I have just taken them all out!!!!!

Exactly!! Ours are EXACTLY the same! I'm convinced that it has to do with fertilisation! Plants just want to grow as big as they can, given the minerals and space, BEFORE they start to flower and thus seed. If you've got the same weeds flowring on both a path and the bed next to it, the 'path' weed will be much smaller and flower earlier!! As far as our Cosmos are concerned we're not feeding but just watering them! Also it's worth checking which varieties you've got. In other words ÑOT ALL cosmos are tall, some are dwarf flowers!!

Yes, I have no doubt, that my disaster is caused new fertile top soil in my newly built beds! I’m hoping, that after a winter of hopefully rain, it will have calmed down and I can have another go. I think I bought the same seeds this year as I alway do, but as I don’t keep the bags, I can’t be sure. I never go for very tall ones though ! Better luck next year, eh ?
