Lovely! Was it from a pattern or are you one of those genius's that just make things up as they knit? :)

No pattern needed. You can add more stitches or less and make them bigger or smaller - shorter or longer.
          As follows
Using 2 strands of double knitting yarn ( these were black/white) cast on 38sts. Knit one row, then k1,p1 in Fisherman's rib* in black only for 1 inch. Replace one strand of black with white and continue to rib until 7" in length . With right side facing rib 17sts , cast off 4 stitches , rib to end. Next row, rib to gap, cast on 4 sts , rib to end. Rib one more row then go back to all black and continue until 9" in length. Cast off in Fisherman's rib.
Knit another Wristie identical to above.
Sew up the sides in Blanket stitch in 2 strands of Black. The seam will be at the outside of the Wristies.

Fisherman's rib is knitting into the back of the plain stitch to give a deeper, thicker rib .
