Cotinus wilt

I have just lost my pride and joy cotinus to verticillium wilt and RHS recommend not replanting for 10 years or so, by which time I suspect I will be pushing up the daisies, anyway! Can I put a potted one in the space safely? Would I need something impermeable under the pot? Thank you for any help.

 

Thank you, sounds as though you had the same thoughts as I did. There is too much underplanting to remove the soil, I think, and of course I don't know the extent of the infection. Slabs and a pot it will be! Coincidentally, when I first planted the cotinus, I considered making it a container feature!!!!!

 

Thanks, yes. Fortuntely I have just emptied a big terracotta pot (about 2'6") and hopefully any new plant will be disease-free. I believe it is OK to prune occasionally, too. Thanks for your help.
