I have grown this plant from seed given to me from a friend who collected it in La Palma early last year.It appears to be evergreen overwintered in heated greenhouse and came into flower a couple of weeks ago .

:wow: Dave that is beautiful... I am wondering if it is a Justicia betonicaor or a distant relative as I saw one last year that was really striking, but the flowers were more spike like than ball like..??

I don't think it's either the Justica (I have one) or the Hardenbergia violaceae (I had one) as the blooms on that were more in panicles rather than balls. It does look familiar however.

Dave, could you give an idea of the size of the plant please (height of plant, size of leaves and flowerhead) and does it have a scent?

No scent as yet ... One flower cluster on one stem (cluster is about a one inch sphere) My plant is about 30in tall, my friend also grew one to a similar hieght last year and then he cut his down to about 5in and it has grown back to about 30in but made a bushy plant ..Hoping it sets seed ,not tried a cutting yet ? Mine has overwintered at about 45.F staying evergreen .Leaves are about 2in long ..

Hiya Dave. I just came back as you responded. I cannot take credit for the identification (it was done by a weed/wildflower botanist friend on another forum, the one who identified my weed yesterday) ... but here is your plant ...
