hi.. now ive got the garden just how i want it and ive found this site i would like to add some kind off water feature. any chance you could give me some ideas maybe some pics please..and a rough est of how much the total cost would be to get one up and staretd. would it be any different in cost to run on a bloody water meter. all ideas welcome im learning and keen
My water feature is still in the box! It is a glass rectangle with a hole in the top for the water to spill out, it has a pump which will be hidden underneath the pebbles it spills over so water recyles around. Got it off ebay for 35 notes. Look on there for water features and it may give you an idea of what you do/do not like. Mine is very modern and large but minimalistic :D
Mine was given to me by a friend. I just wanted something very simple. No tipping watering cans, no nodding donkeys. Just a peaceful, small fountain to drink martinis by. I haven't actually got it set in (or up) yet. I need some plants round it but I only got it 2 weeks ago. I call it 'My bloody great pineapple'. Oh and Ste, most water features just have the same water going round and round so no real charge for water. And I like water meters. When there are only 2 of you it's a lot cheaper than rateable value. Especially if you don't actually bath (or wash, or shower or wash up etc.) :D
thanks sarra/ a.c thats going to be the last thing i buy to finish off my garden with ill have a look on e/bay maybe now the garden cntrs are getting ready for the xmas display its the time to hit em for a bargain ill keep my eyes peeled i just want summert small and simple when i get it up and running i better tell wife what it is ,, coz when she full of w,k,d next summer dont want her thinking its one of them things ya clean ya bum with
I did one with a large rock and drilled a 22mm hole though it. Cost a couple of hours of grunt with a large hammer drill. You will of course have to buy a pump and some sort of container - Check out your local garage, they are usually quite happy to give you an old tyre, SUV ones are great! (costs a garage them to get them uplifted!) Bury it in the ground then add a small liner to waterproof the base and sides and bingo - one mini pond! We had a debate about low voltage pumps, mains pumps and solar power so I won't go into that here but running costs are about the same as running a 40W bulb if using the mains as primary power. Using mains water would not be possible. Your pond will constantly overflow and saturate your garden - you'd end up with a quagmire. Also the water is chlorinated and you will get little wildlife other than birds visiting for a bath.
There are a whole variety of water features available. depends what you want. It should not be too big for the area or on the same token too small (like a table top feature outside would be too small) You can make your own it is very easy, but give it some thought as to what you want it to look like, and do you want lights (costs more) But remeber water features do require topping up as and when required, other wise you may damage the pump.
