Most of you will know about my long battles with the neighbourhood cats the front is now well and truely sorted but the side again is once again getting into a mess although I hand picked all the bark chippings from the gravel only just the other day.

While I was chatting on the phone yesterday evening (it was only a short chat 20 minutes or so) I noticed all the while that Mr & Mrs Blackbird was upto no good in our back garden!

Mr.Blackbird was rolling quite huge lumps of clay down the borders and it got me into thinking could he and his misses be at fault for the bark chipping getting into such a mess and not the cats after all?

I had smelt cat and removed their doings from the chippings before but now I'm not too sure if they still are at fault. [IMG]

    Any advice would be helpful.Thanks.Hel.xxx.

Hel, We have had the same problem, and the culprit WAS the Blackbird ...I've watched them 'flicking' the bark so they can get to the soil .... one deterrent that does have an effect is a 'mobile ornament' that will flutter slightly eg. one of those children's windmills (best way I can describe what I mean). I have resigned myself to just picking up the debris !!!

Thank you Mona Lisa for your reply I really couldn't believe it when I saw Mister Blackbird doing the building work in the back borders, the funny thing is his cute little wife was just watching him while he worked away....so maybe not birds are not much more different than humans.. :D Hel.xxx.

I thought it was cats attacking our bin bags, but it ended up being magpies that i saw one day when i went round the side. Attacking holes in and spreading the contents of my bins. So could well be birds.
