I'm sure NS will abolish it, north of the border, once she makes a deal with the labour party.:snork:

In Scotland the council tax includes the water charges . You don't get an additional bill.

That's interesting Charlie. We still use a rates system here and our water, sewage and parish charges (no counties here) are included.

That's probably because it rains more in Scotland:dunno::lolpt::heehee:

Do you think an all inclusive rates, water, sewage bill is more accountable than separate bills for the different items:scratch:. The English rates system seems to be complicated enough with it being broken down for the different services you're supposed to get:doh::snork:.

I don't think it makes a lot of difference Armandii, everything is itemised on one bill and not the other but the cost is the same. The only thing gained is less paper used.

What I was thinking about, Sheal, was that here in England the Water Companies are private but subject to price control organisations rather than state run where possibly you have less say or control:dunno::coffee:

We get ONE Bill, showing the cost of council tax, waste water disposal, and provision of fresh water, itemised,
The final amount is paid over ten months, (Fife council can not count in twelves it has to be metric as in ten fingers)

Hi Jack, good to hear from you. Yep, we in England pay in 10 month installments but I think that's just a method of quick payment for getting the monies into the Council chests.
Does that mean the Scottish Government has ownership of the Utilities??

Pretty much so, the council collect the monies, for Scottish water, so yes to Scottish Gov just two different departments on one bill

12 payments for me but im delighted to pay them every month because i know the money is being spent very wisely indeed on such noble things as councillors expenses and the massive Edinburgh council deficit. Nurse its time for my medicine again..........Nurse! :rolleyespink:

My preference is for water meters then people get charged for what they use, like they do with gas, electricity, etc.

We have a water meter, it nearly halved our bill.
We went from nearly £50.00 a month to £25.00 a month.
The house were buying is a band D And our current house is a B, but its only £120.00 a year more, in a better area and a bigger house.
