Every year I grow courgettes and cucumbers but every year my plants seem to get some form of mildew. The leaves grow fine and then all of a sudden the leaves get what looks like white powder on them. Then the leaves begin to go brown and dry out. On the courgette plants, some of the courgettes stop growing and just die off. What causes this mildew and is there a way of stopping/treating it?

Well if you have a problem with powdery mildew either sow mildew resistant seed or make up a spray of 40% milk and 60% water it is very very effective against powdery mildew. Scientists are not exactly sure how milk sprays work, but most think proteins in the milk interact with sun to create a brief antiseptic effect. Any fungi present are "burned" into oblivion, but there is no residual effect after that. So it will be effective, milk sprays must be used preventively, must be applied in bright light, and should be repeated every 10 days or so hope that helps you @kazzawazza
