I've finally got a courgette thats large enough to use. I know it's not much of an achievement but it's the first one.

The plants were grown from seed, did really well, planted out into growbags - 1 B&Q and 1Homebase one. They got severly battered when we had the strong winds and lost most of the leaves so I knew that they'd have to recover before anything happened. The 2 in the homebase growbag send out the female flowers get to about 2", flower and then don't get any bigger, it's as if they flower then just stop growing. The ones in the B&Q growbag did that for the first 2 or 3 female flowers but now have started to actually grow nicely and I've got one thats just ready for picking. I've come to the conclusion that they don't like the Homebase growbags as they're next to each other in the garden, and don't get any different treatment. The plants just don't seem to be as well developed or look as healthy in the homebase growbag.

There have been some horror stories regarding growbags and what they contain.

Since we've all been encouraged to recycle our green waste it all seems to go into some of them, glass crisp bags etc, from the less consciencous recycler.

Apart from that I'd just give the poorer peforming plants a good old dose of tomato fertilizer that should help them along.
