Courgettes

Hello people,

Could someone tell me when is the best time to plant courgettes please,I don't know if I have spelt it right??

You can sow them under cover now Graham and then plant out in May when there is no risk of frost.
It's too early to sow them directly into the garden.

 

Cheers Dave, when you say undercover do you mean inside ont windowsill or under them cloches?

 

Best to sow in pots indoors - they'll germinate faster. When they are ready for outside you could put them under cloches to give a bit of protection until they get established.

 

I sowed my first courgettes on my very sunny and warm windowsill at the beginning of February. Everyone said it was too early but I've currently got 3 courgettes growing on it with the largest now being 2 inches long....well pleased. The gartenperle bush tomatoes I sowed at the same time are now flowering profusely so I'm looking forward to lots of early tomatoes too.

 

I sowed mine last month - F1 "one ball" and a new climbing one, the former is romping away like mad!
