    Hello all.
    I'm new here so...hi!

    I'd like to ask a question about lawn seed. I need to put down an area about 4m x 4m

    I've done it before and the local pigeons take delight at it.

    Can I cover the seed with a huge lightweight tarpaulin? Will it still do its thing.
    Obv I can water it as required but I don't if it will germinate like it or not. Any advice??

    Thanks all

      Hello and welcome to the forum Portigrass.

      Don't use a tarpaulin as that will exclude light, use bird netting instead - it's very cheap for the size you mention. Support it on canes/twigs to raise it off the soil and that will deter birds.

          I used split canes all over the area and attached bird tape.
          Only place the birds got to mine was the edges where I didn't add any tape.
          Was like £3 on eBay for a big roll.

            Hi and Welcome

            As JWK said really. I've just done a bit of this, had to cut down a tree so reseeded, cheap left over netting and a few canes or other 'stakes' you might be able to fashion for the purpose will keep pests away. Here's a pic.

              Just to say my grass seed has germinated with what looks like a high percentage yield, bit surprised as the weather has taken a chilly turn.

              Costa del Fens innit :whistle::heehee:
