Can you describe it for us, is it a shrub? a climber? I don`t think it`s Heliotrope at the end of October. David.

I don't think it's Heliotrope because mine is blooming at the moment and I've looked. Also Heliotrope flowers tend to look upwards and are more flat headed. It's easy to tell a Heliotrope as it smells like cherries, hence it's name Cherry Pie.

As daitheplant said, a description would be useful.

I think you're right woo, Celia was right and I agree with her as we had lots of it on the IoW, but that was the other unidentified plant you had ....

Dear woo ... you have really confused me now because the Valerium is in the ID thread called Weed?

Are you sure they are the same plant ... go to the other thread and look as they look like two different plants to me.

I don't actually think your photography that bad ... I should know! [IMG]

Well it doesn't look a lot like red valerian to me. This is red valerian (Centranthus rubra)

and this is common valerian (Valeriana officinalis)

Just to be pain in the backside, I think it is.
Its a lousy pic Woo, but I think Celia's right.

Your first pic Hb is a very good looking form.
I grew one plant and now its a total weed, I think it should be avoided like the plague.

I think the confusion is because of the use of common names.

No, HB, I don't think the photo at the top of this thread looks like Valerian either. It is in a thread woo posted called Weed?

I'm not sure about the photo above.

Pete, if you notice, Celia isn't talking in this thread, she is talking in the Weed? thread.

So, perhaps we go back to KF's Heliotrope, which doesn't look like mine, but there are a couple of the peruvianum that look a bit different.

I've seen both threads LOL, and I think its the same plant. The flower is blurred but look at the leaves, the flower colour is also a bit off.
The thing is that Hb is now quite rightly disputing the common name.

Oh Look what confusion I have caused now,I do apologise to one and all,But what happened was that I started one thread and it was such a poor photo,I took another pic and posted it again,I should have deleted the first pic and then replaced it with the slightly improved pic, instead of having two threads on the same subject.I have now transplanted it to my Wildlife/Butterfly garden well contained in its own little plot.
