There is a local florist/grocery shop that I pass most days and he has some great plants in sometimes but I was beginning to think I was going nuts because his prices kept changing but I'm on to him now lol :snork::heehee:

If he has a particular plant that's selling well he puts the price up in the following couple of days; for example he had a very nice perennial Lobelia in last week with a pink flower and purple/green leaves, can't remember the name, anyway they were originally marked up at just £1.95 in a 3 litre pot; they were selling like hot cakes, 2 days later his remaining stock were priced at £3.25 each!!!!

Another was some specimen sized Palms, approx 5ft tall and in stunning condition, original price £29.99, after he sold half of them quite quickly they jumped up to £34.95!!

He's a nice guy and who can blame him for trying to make the most of something that's selling well?, on the flip side of the coin he does quickly reduce prices of plants once they're past their best or aren't selling...:dbgrtmb:

Its all about supply and demand. Huge corporations do it as a matter of routine. Just watch how fuel prices fluctuate, or commodities, or stocks and shares. If something is popular, its price goes up, if its not, its price goes down. Bigger retailers realise this but often the smaller independents don't, and so they lose out by not responding quickly enough to fluctuations in demand.

Tescos camping gear and gardening stuff was reduced 50% and more before the summer finally started this year when they put it all back up to full price and I've lost count of how many times their cool boxes have been reduced at put back up again.

If considering a particular item from the likes of Amazon it's worth checking price history and setting up an alert at http://uk.camelcamelcamel.com/ so you'll know if the price drops to what you're prepared to pay. An example below with multi-purpose pocket knives that I got when £1.80 delivered (the 3rd Party Sellers prices shown don't include P&P):

              D.I.Y. centres are the same.
Best time to buy summer garden furnature is at Christmas; best time to buy heating appliances: mid-summer.
