How embarrassing. I managed to crash Gothilda on the way home from work.

There's an awkward junction onto a narrow street that is only wide enough for one vehicle at a time. The trick is to creep forward slowly til you can see round the corner, then if anything is coming down, back up so they can get through, then come out.

That's what I did. Except I only got as far as the backing up part, when I heard a car horn behind me, slammed on the brakes, not quite quick enough then boom. I had actually checked behind me before engaging reverse, but then while checking all around me to I set off, not realising another car had rolled up behind me between me checking back, and checking the sides.

I switched everything off and got out to go and see the other driver, she got out of her car initially looking full of fight but she calmed down as soon as she realised I wasn't going to make a scene. I appologised and accept full responsibility immediately, because whatever the insurance company guidelines about one car going into the back of another, the fact is I reverse my car into hers.

Anyway, it was a very low speed impact and neither of us could find any sign of damage on either car, so the lady just put it down to 'these things happen', actually apologised to me for driving up behind me, I apologised again, and then we were both on our way, only this time with me being a lot more thorough with my observations.

:ouch1: Oh dear Clueless not a good thing to have happen but luckily no damage you say, thank goodness..

Well if it is any consolation, we have altered our entrance a bit recently & today while reversing in as usual I just got the angle slightly wrong & have 2 nasty scrapes across the rear passenger door... :gaah:

I was all set to swap details, but the other driver wasn't interested once she saw that there was no damage. It was only a slight knock.

Gothilda is a sturdy wench :heehee:, hope the other party didn`t get home to find she has a internal knock.

My ego was slightly damaged. Prior to this I've never crashed into another vehicle before (unless you count the time I managed it on a pushbike). The odd lamp post, the occasional fence, a sand dune, yes, but never another car.

Only ever hit a wall with the car, and that was swerving to avoid an idiot coming towards me.

I've hit a Sand Dune and the Kerb with a motor bike though, still got the scars from the latter.

In London, your crash would be classed as part of a common manoeuvre, known as 'parking' :heehee:

                              Glad it wasn't serious mate.

Oh I have once had a bad record
I was a field service engineer travelling Scotland

One bad night I was going home at midnight in my six week old VW Golf
I decided to take a bridge out
Advised my employer, and my health had nothing to do with it, they gave me the managers BMW, The next night I took the same bridge out

I phoned the Director and advised him I had written off the car
He said we know, just use the managers car while we get you a new one, errr it is the managers car
So they hired me a new VW Golf from Arnold Clark, a nice week old car,
Two weeks later I hit the same bridge with that and wrote it off
How I was not dismissed I do not know maybe because I believe I was the best engineer they had employed

By then my new VW Golf had arrived, and I managed 25 years accident free
I got a brand new car every six months as they had a policy of change every 45k miles
