If its anything like the Napoli that ran aground down here, they'll cut it up in situ.

Another body has just been recovered:(

I just have a feeling that Italy is sinking with that ship...
Not forever, but for long enough to make me really upset...

PS at least we are sinking hand in hand with glorious Greece.

Its obviously a terrible tragedy, but I don't like the way the captain has already been found guilty in all but law.

He may well be, but he has no chance of a fair trial now. He initially said that the rock he hit didn't show on his navigation gear. It no longer matters whether or not he is telling the truth.

I think it was mentioned on the radio this morning that six people have lost their lives and because the ship has moved a few centimeters earlier today they had stopped the search but not sure if they have started again.

Some of the survivors were saying that when the ship went over, the had to climb down rope ladders that were like five storeys high and that a lot of the life boats were too high to be reached once the ship was on it's side. They were also saying that because the crew all spoke a foreign language they couldn't understand what was being said to them and also that the Captain and crew members were getting off the ship first and leaving the passengers to fend for themselves.

Also it is said that the captain went further inshore so that the Mayor could be waved at as the Captain recieved a text message from him thanking him but until the truth comes out and the black box is studied we won't know the answers.

I do hope that some good comes out of this and the way that these cruise ships are run

My thoughts and prayers are with the familys and friends of the loved ones that have lost their lives and those still yet to be found...:(

They said on the news before the Mayor was one of the first on the scene and he even helped in the rescue, which I thought was odd but know It's starting to make sence....

I am quite gobsmacked at the total incompetence here ...

Take the b*astard to hell ...

    I remember well this ..

    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Herald_of_Free_Enterprise

... and it always panicked me coming here to Portugal twice a year on such a ferry and back and forth with our cats ..

Thank goodness we have not done this since 2004.

Hopefully they'll take him to court first.

I presume we're talking about the captain. I don't know anything at all about driving a ship, but I believe it takes more than one person to do it, and that when approaching a port, lots of activity starts to happen on land too, to direct the ship to some extent.

So before we take anybody to hell, it might be fair to wait to find out who should be taken to hell.

Too true Clueless but I understand he 'abandoned ship' first as did most of the crew ...

... don't think that is the thing to do ..

Also brought back memories of more incompetence ....

Some of the survivors were also saying that there was a lot of men pushing people out of the way so they could get off of the ship.Whatever happend to Women and Children first:mad:

When the Sun newspapers were doing their trips over to France and Belgium for a tenner and we tried to get on the Belgium one but as it was heavily subscibed we had to go a week later but on the Calais one instead.I think it was stroke of luck on our part as it would have been the Herald Of Free Enterprise we would have been sailing on that day and at that time:phew:

When it comes down to it there was one person in charge of the vessel, and guilty or not, he has to take the blame.

        Nasa's view:

Question (Q): Are there any threats to the Earth in 2012? Many Internet websites say the world will end in December 2012.
Answer (A): Nothing bad will happen to the Earth in 2012. Our planet has been getting along just fine for more than 4 billion years, and credible scientists worldwide know of no threat associated with 2012.

Heloooooo .... dinasaurs all gone ? .... hairy elephants found in siberia with tropical green grass still perfectly frozen in their stomachs? etc etc

Thing that bugs me, is are these ships safe?

They roll over very fast, and had it not been on the bottom who knows what the outcome might have been.
Of course you could always argue had it not scrapped the rocks it wouldn't have happened in the first place.

But it just shows how unstable these floating blocks of flats are.
