Hi while walking round the garden I noticed something that as a kid we called Cuckoo spit.

Could it be anything else ? looking here if it is Cuckoo spit its nothing to be concerned about, let them get on with it ?

I don't have it here but did in my previous garden. I just let them get on with it - far too much else to be getting on with out there :heehee:

We have lots of it this year. It's not a problem and we're happy for them to stay there. :dbgrtmb:

If I see it on anything special I tend to find the individual, in the spit, and squash it.
Other than that I dont both with it, never found it to be that troubling.

Thank you Pete, I'm trying to build my garden for wildlife, as long as somethings not kill a plant off its welcome,

My main problems are slugs snails, and aphids on my climbing roses,

Off topic but I spotted something like this flying around today, I wasn't lucky enough to get a picture,

I was a bit wary of it to be honest:yikes:, it looked like it had a big stinger:biggrin:, could it be this or is there something else similar ?.

That's not a stinger Martin, it's an ovipositor.

              Ever seen Alien? :yikes: :snork:

I'd say its some kind of wasp, so not a baddy, more likely a goodie.
                Wood wasps dont sting.

I've had absolutely loads of Cuckoo Spit on all my Lavender this year, so much so that it has looked quite unsightly. Most of it, on the sides and at the back, I let be but I use a fine squirty spray filled with water to wash away what I find on the front of the bushes.:)
