We but three cucumber plants every spring and pot them up in the greenhouse. Two are growing as usual but the third is growing very rapidly but has only one cucumber on it, unlike the other two plants.

Can I do anything about this? The only thing that I can think off is to cut the end off, but am not sure if this is a good idea.

    Thanks

Has it had flowers (more than the one that resulted in the single cucumber)? If so, maybe for some reason they didn't get pollinated.

It has about five or six flowers on it. It's growing completely differently to the other two plants but they are different varieties.

      What are the varieties?
You may have an outdoor ridge type cucumber which needs pollinating to produce fruit, unlike greenhouse varieties which mostly don't need pollination, in fact you don't want greenhouse types to pollinate as it makes them bitter.

The one that is growing a lot is called Ridge Perfection.
The other two are Femspot and Hana

All three can be grown in the ground or in pots according to the instructions that came with them. The Ridge Perfection is putting all its energy into growing - you can almost see it grow!

As @pete said that is a ridge cucumber that will need hand pollination being grown in a greenhouse.

Basically transferring pollen from male flowers to female. What I do is remove the male flower, pick one that has visible pollen forming, strip the flower petals off to expose the male parts, then gently rub onto each female that is open, rub the pollen onto the female stigma, the sticky up thing in the middle of the flower. Males don't have a embryonic fruit whereas the females do.

You'll be able to find you tube videos if my explanation isn't clear.

This video shows how to use a paintbrush to pollinate, I have done this method as well, but I find taking the males straight to the female more effective

By the way this is not necessary for those all female cucumbers, assuming that is what Femspot and Hana are.

Really the ridge wants to be outside which is why its growing like the clappers, they are hardier than the all female greenhouse types and the insects do the pollination for you most of the time.
Not grown Hana, but grew Femspot for years, they do not need pollinating and really should not be, as you will get misshapen bitter fruits if they do.
