Cultivating Weeds

    Is is just me or does anyone else "cultivate" weeds from time to time?

    It's only a weed if you don't want it! Otherwise it is a plant to be admired. Even bindweed can be pretty in the right place.

    They're coming to take me away soon!!!!

    I grow comfrey for fertiliser. It can spread and grow like mad if you don't contol it. I have bindweed which has lovely white flowers on it. Thistles and nettles have their place for the birds and butterflies. I am however trying (failing) to keep my weeds under control, but they certainly have a place.

    I often leave a weed if I don't know what it is. I've had Herb Paris, Giant Lettuce, and (frighteningly enough) Jimson Weed. I've now got a Trillium which is odd as I have planted them in the same spot several years ago and they just faded away, and any number of Yew volunteers. Those I see as a gift and attempt to topiarise appropriately to the space - though an outsize chicken in a rockery may not be to everyones taste.
