That's the bridge whose photo was always on tins of biscuits and boxes of chocolates.

We have just bought a caravan in Cumbria . Actually about 20 yards into Cumbria in the Silverdale area of Morecambe bay. I spent a lot of my teens and twenties in my parents holiday home in the Ambleside area. The Lake District is stunningly beautiful area of the UK , but it does rain a lot ! There is a clue in the name

@HarryS It doesn't rain when we go up there! We go at least twice a year (a week each time) and have been going for almost 50 years with less than an average of half a day of rain per week.

It was even announced at the Borrowdale Show one time. We turned up, walked into the show (over a thousand of people there), had only been there 10 minutes when an announcement came over the tannoy "for those of you that know, Mr and Mrs Shiney have just arrived so this week will be nice and sunny".

@HarryS we agree about the weather at times but when we have been in September time it is usually pretty good.I look at the Lakeland Cam site on the net so I can follow what the scenery looks like all year round as it is updated daily although it is all photos that the chap puts up of his walk so not actually a live Cam so to speak:scratch:

@roders Thankyou so much for sharing your beautiful holiday photos and it looks like you picked the right week as other times that bridge would be full of tourists and cars:biggrin:

I started a thread 11 years ago on here about some of my visits. Although I have about 5,000 photos I only put a few of them on the thread.

We usually go twice a year ,spring and Autumn for the last twenty odd years.
I must admit it always used to rain most days ,but the last three to four years we have been very lucky and have dry and often super weather. The becks were very low for April this year ,so can assume it has been dryer than usual..............global warming I suspect.
As we all know it is notoriously the wettest part of England and they have had some serious rain in the past.

Our caravan is about 12 miles south of the Lake District national park . About 3 miles from Arnside , a very pretty village on the bay, overlooking the southern fells. It's 50 miles door to door, so will be a lovely little bolt hole as I plan to retire this summer.:blue thumb:
