What is it about cats and cupboards? You cannot open a cupboard in my house without one or both cats disappearing inside. I regularly get a shout from my other half, "Is Toby/Lily with you? I was in the airing cupboard and he/she has disappeared.". Lucy was the same. We had one cupboard where the catch barely held the door and Lucy would tap, tap, tap until it would spring open then in she would go. Do other cat owners find the same?

 Yes, both Munchkin and Van disappear into all cupboards and cubby holes, sometimes disappearing for hours on end. Van can open the cat flap when it is closed/locked... grabs it with his claws and pulls it toward him. Not bad for a big boy, 16-17lbs. :cat-kittyandsmiley:

Yes, ours do like an open cupboard.
First cat we ever had used to love sleeping in the airing cupboard, but he would not go in if one opened the door for him. We had to open the door, take something out or put something in and then leave the door ajar. He would then open the door and go in.
All our other cats have loved cardboard boxes, but the present three totally ignore them.

It's cats eternal desire to find somewhere dark, quiet, cosy and warm where it can rest in peace and quiet out of the way of bigger creatures.

Cupboards, yes, but ohhhh the draw of the attic  We've only got to put one foot on the staircase and cats appear from nowhere, race up ahead of whoever is climbing the stairs and sit expectantly by the attic door ready to dive in and then play hide and seek for several hours.
It won't be so bad now that the elderly pissy cat is no more, but it was a definite no-no letting him in to spray all over the place. The other reason they're forbidden up there is because when they wriggle into the inaccessible/un-plasterboarded spaces, they're likely to be getting up close and personal with rockwool insulation. I'm sure that wouldn't do them much good

Our one never slept in a cupboard as they were always closed but an empty shoe box on top of the cupboard was really cosy.

I have always said that the whole reason why cats live with humans is that we invaded their caves thousands of years ago and they have been trying to get us out since.

That sounds like me !

Bella will sit by the door to the 'cwtch' under the stairs (don't know the English word) and Meow until I open it for her to go in and have a snoop around. If I don't do it she just annoys me until I do. It seems very important to her that she goes in there :dunno:
She also likes to sleep for hours behind the drawers under the bed. I have to leave them open until I know she has come out.

                    Thanks @Victoria
and the Welsh spelling is actually 'cwtsh' because 'ch' has a different sound.

Sorry for digressing ... now back to the cats :cat-kittyandsmiley:

Misty likes cupboards and boxes, anything she can squeeze into really:

She likes watching other cats in boxes:

Best of all she likes sleeping on my old gardening clothes, if I come in and leave them lying around:
